The Dannon Company announced today that the South Huntington "Rugrats" youth soccer team has won the 2003 Eastern New York Youth Soccer (ENYYSA) Under 11 Tournament in Haverstraw, New York. The Rugrats beat the Clarkstown "White" by a score of 1 to 0. The team will now head on an all-expense paid trip to Paris from September 4-7 to compete in the Danone Nations Cup International Soccer Tournament. This year marks the third year of the tournament and the second year the U.S. is participating.

"The Danone Nations Cup is a fantastic event that unifies young athletes from around the world while encouraging a healthy and active life style," said Eric Leventhal, vice president, marketing, The Dannon Company. "The ENYYSA tournament allows Dannon to recognize the athletic talent of our local players and reward them with a chance to bring the international title to New York."

Cheering from the sidelines in Haverstraw was world-renowned U.S. soccer player Tab Ramos. Ramos will also accompany the winning teams to Paris as an honorary coach, helping the players prepare for the big game. "I know how much these kids love the game and how hard they work to perfect their skills," said Ramos. "I applaud Dannon for standing behind them."

A total of 32 countries will be represented at the 2003 Danone Nations Cup. Groupe Danone, the leading multi-product food group in France, Italy and Spain, sponsors the fun-focused tournament. The tournament has steadily grown from 18 teams four years ago to 32 teams today. Dannon will provide travel and accommodations for 16 players and three adults from South Huntington to the international tournament.
